Recently a PS3 jailbreak / mod chip device was released from a Australian company. The device was purported to open up the the PS3 and allow users to copy PS3 games to an internal or external USB hard drive. The video above shows the device in action. You will see that a copy of Uncharted is placed into the Playstation 3 with the USB stick plugged in. The user then launches a program named “Backup Manager” where they have the option to either backup the inserted game or launch a previously backed up PS3 games. The video shows the user launching Ratchet and Clank successfully.
Can I buy the PS3 jailbreak / mod chip?
At release the PS3 jailbreak device was costing well over $150 at every known online retailer. This is quite expensive and most people really don’t want to spend that kind of money. Another issues arose shorty after the PS3 jailbreak release. Sony successfully petitioned he Australian government to prohibit sale and distribution of the PS3 jailbreak device. Anyone who pre-ordered the device will likely not be receiving it and you will not be able to order these online anywhere. At least at the time of this article being written.
Not too worry however. The code that the PS3 jailbreak device was based on is now available. You can create your own USB jailbreak device very easily. The process is very simple and the USB device needed can be purchases fairly cheaply. It is not a regular USB thumbdrive.
